I just got the new Scala Rider Q2 Bluetooth Headset for Motorcycle riders.
Anyway I got it because it's suppose to support being linked to your Cell
Phone and GPS and also has a built in FM tuner. Well for the GPS part of
the Puzzle I had planned to use my HP IPAQ 2795 WM5 pocketPC using the
iguidance software for GPS Navigation. Also using a Motorola Razr for the
cell phone.

Now comes the tricky part. I had thought I would be linking each of those 2
devices (PDA-GPS/Call phone) to the Q2, but reading the Q2 manual it tells
be to link to the GPS unit first(Pairing), then it tells me that if I wish
to use a Bluetooth Mobile phone to make and receive calls through the
headset, you must now pair your mobile phone to your GPS device by following
your GPS and/or mobile phone instructions.

Now I have no problem with the GPS(PDA) pairing to the Q2. I'm getting
Audio just fine, but it's the Cell phone I'm having problem with. I only
seem to be able to get it Pairing up to Data transfer, so I can transfer
pictures for example. I don't see how I can go about getting it working
for Normal Voice functions to the PDA which then goes to the Q2 headset.
Does anyone have any Idea? I don't have a Stand Alone GPS unit with
Bluetooth Capabilities, so I don't know what, if anything would be different
in this situation.

The #1 reason for this is the GPS, but Cell phone is a nice feature also to
have, and the FM tuner is a Bonus. Also using the PDA would allow me when
I'm not using it for GPS to use it as a MP3 player for example would would
be nice once in a while. I just can't seem to figure out how to link(Pair)
my Cell phone to the PDA to go to the headset. So does anyone have any
idea?

Hmm, that doesn't sound good. Been using a Scala Rider for a phone headset
for a while and was excited by the new Q2. From the info, I had assumed it
would pair with a GPS and a separate phone, like many BT stereo headphones.
They do the phone over Headset/Handsfree and the music over A2DP. Thinking
about it though, the GPS units like the Zumo and my iPAQ 310, want to pair
with a BT headset (HS/HF) and then have you pair the phone to the GPS, also
over HS/HF. It kind of passes the BT through for a call. It might be it
isn't going to do what you want, (or me either). I'd get a hold of the Scala
guys and ask them.

I have a Garmin StreetPilot 2610 GPS only unit and it works great. Updated
the Maps in it last year. I didn't really want to buy a NEW GPS with
Bluetooth built in because of a stupid Motorcycle headset requirement if my
PocketPC I already have, with Mapping software already installed and
Bluetooth support is built in, and I just couldn't use that. Now it's
looking like I have to buy a new GPS unit with Bluetooth built in. So now
I'm looking at something like the Garmin nuvi 360. List price is 964.99,
current Amazon price is $264.49. Considering what I paid for my 2610, it's
not a bad deal, but I really didn't want to have to spend another $300. I
did e-mail scala but am still waiting for a reply.

What about a Garmin GPS10 or Mobile 10 depending on whether you have regular
or NT maps. They both support PDAs and will talk to your PDA via Bluetooth.
Certainly cheaper than the 360 if you already like your PDA display.

Or you could look at other cheaper Bluetooth GPS units and use the mapping
software already on your PDA.

The need here is to get the audio from the GPS to the Scale headset. The
problem is that the GPS's that support that sort of thing, do it to the
headset as a handsfree set, not an A2DP source it seems. Then you pair your
phone to the GPS. These sorts of GPS's actually act as a handsfree set for
the phone, My Ipaq 310 for instance can be used ass a handsfree unit when
paired with my cell phone. Then you pair a headset to the GPS and it
provides guidance over the headset, until you get a call, then it sort of
passes the phone audio through.

JB, have you considered a Zumo, or TomTom Rider? They are a bit pricey, but
are actually made for a bike. I wouldn't trust my iPaq in a rain, without an
annoying baggie on it.
