Hi, All--
I'm newbie here , but I've enjoyed reading the posts (read, "Picking The
Brains") of this group.
I just bought an HP iPAQ that I'm trying to set up on my existing home WLAN.
The problem I'm having is that I've somehow lost the paper on which I wrote
down my Network Key. Is there any way I can find this on my system? Or should
I go ahead and dump my existing Open/WEP and change the whole system to WPA?
I'm somewhat pressed for time, as I'm going to be leaving home for a couple
of weeks in a few days and I wanted to use the iPAQ to check my email while
I'm away.
Thanks in advance! I'm glad I found this group!!
Steve

I see you didn't mention the model of iPAQ... mine only supported wep, and
needed seperate software for wpa... Not sure what ISP you use, since the
headers don't show, but all the ones I've seen support getting email while
travelling (or at least forwarding to a webmal system), and then I can use
my pocketpc wherever there is wifi....

Steve:

Run the setup on your wireless router (see the
manual). The WEP key will be shown there.

1) WPA is stronger so if everything on your network (that is wireless)
supports it, go ahead and change.
2) Unless you are vacationing very close to home, your wireless key will
have little to do with your access from anywhere else. It only encrypts the
wireless signal from your PPC to your Access Point. It would have nothing to
do with anything if you were at a coffee shop with free wireless and
connecting back to home, or to your e-mail server.
3) Not sure how your leaving for a couple of weeks affects this. You will
not be able to attach back to your home PC over the internet to sync. Most
folks know that AS over wireless was eliminated, but it is actually AS over
IP. You can't AS to the PC from any network location.

You can collect your mail directly on your PPC by setting up the mailboxes.
Of course, if you have Exchange running at home, you can connect to that
from the net, or wirelessly.
