Hi All:

I'm having the same problem that a lot of you have already reported.

"Activation Error: You have an older version of Pocket PC which does not
support Activation."

This is on a Sprint PPC-6700 that I just purchased a week ago.

Please advise as soon as a fix is available.

Thanks,
Terence

Terence:

Do you have the OEMInfo.xml file in your \windows directory of your device.
If not please contact me offline and I will send you a copy of this file to
get your activation up and running.

Sincerely,
Christine - Micrsoft Reader Team

Do you have another email address I can send this to? It isn't making it

Hi Christine,

I would be very grateful if you could you send me a copy of this file as well.

I've got a HP IPAQ hx2190 ( Win Mobile 5 ) and I've spent lots of time
trying to activate ms reader.
I am a tech and can locate/copy the file to the appropriate location as you
have specified.

One question I do have though: If this does resolve the activation issue,
why have Microsoft not issued a fix, or for that matter the manufacturers?
Perhaps this question is for someone else to answer.

Many, Many thanks!
Regards
Russell

Russell:

I have sent the file to the email you specified.

As to why there is not a fix issued by Microsoft; Microsoft can't issue this
file as it does not belong to them. It is a file that is secured by the
manufacturers - based on their device set and normally built into the device
image. We are working with our device partners to make it easier for our
customers to acquire this file and as soon as a process is in place a post
will be made back to this group.

Thank you,
Christine - Microsoft Reader Team

I also asked Christine a few questions via E-mail ( below ) that reader may
find useful.
----------------------------------------------------
Subject: RE: Missing File

Thank you very very much Christine.
I can now enjoy the ebooks i've purchased.

Incase I need to find this file in future, is there a public download site
available?
Or would it be possible to have a notice added to the MSReader website as I
only looked in the newsgroups as a very last resort?
I feel sorry for other people having the same problems and end up giving up
as I nearly did.

I also know a few people who have not yet taken the plunge and installed
WM5, when they do, is this file generic for all pocket devices or is it
make/model specific?

Once again, a very big thank you.
Regard
Russell

----------------------------------------------------
Russell:

I am pleased that you were finally able to activate your device!

I appreciate your concern for other users. We are working toward resolving
this situation for future WM image releases as well as working toward making
these file widely available for download.

At present you could likely use this file on any device, however, it is not
recommended as we can't anticipate how the file will be used in the future.
The file is manufacturer specific and can be translated to any device by the
same manufacturer (e.g. if you have an i-mate k-jam and your co-worker has
an i-mate jas-jar you could share the file with them)

Let me know if you have further questions and I will do my best to assist
you.

Sincerly,
Christine - Microsoft Reader Team
