Total Outgoing Call timer gone since v5
Since v5 the most annoying thing about Microsoft Mobile is the call timer
for all outgoing calls is gone. Before v5 you could see total calls in AND
total calls out.. but in V5, and V6 it only gives total calls in and out.
Why would I want this feature? Because I'm on a call cap, ie: I have free
calls every month up to around 10 hours. Once I go over that I pay dearly.
I really miss this simple but very usefull feature. Why did they remove it?
Is there a 3rd party utility that can do this for me?
Thanks

I'm guessing you have the same phone and have managed to upgrade it from
WM2003 to WM5 to WM6? If not and you actually have changed phones each time,
it is very likely the feature you mention is an OEM enhancement or ommission
by the carrier.

Sven,

see to get that done with an O2 or similar?

Every once in a while being an MVP has some perks. We sometimes get to test
some of the same buggy, unstable builds MS tries internally. For a regular
consumer, me included, the OEM is the only legal, legitimate way to get a
device upgrade. Unfortunately those upgrades are what I mentioned, MS code
with additions, deletions, 'enhancements'. All I said was that both incoming
and outgoing timers were there in one of my devices. It is a fairly pure MS
build of WM6. So, my assumption is that MS did not specifically take that
out. That's the only non-OEM build I have on any device. Got an ATT Tilt
that should show up tomorrow, (yes I had to sell my soul, and lay down my
own $). I'll let you know if that has the call timers you are looking for.
I know that doesn't help you, but It may help you accurately direct your
annoyance

Well, the tilt just has All calls too, doesn't break out In and Out.
Interesting.

Thanks Sven,
I thought as much since every smartfone i've seen in shops running PPC5 or
later does the same.
It's so damn annoying. I can't understand why such a simple function that is
obviously there in the MS Build and in previous OEM versions, has been taken
out.
In Australia, many phone companies have these phone cap plans where you pay
a monthly fee to get a certain amount of call time per month. Do they have
this sort of thing where you are?
If my suspisions are right, there would be many many users like me who
monitor their call out time for the month so not to go over there cap and
get a nasty bill.... for eg: last month because of this lack of total call
time, I went over my call cap limit by about 75mins and it made my bill
double!! So annoying.
Is there a work around or a 3rd party software that you know of?
thanks again

Yea we do (US), but it is minutes of airtime. Doesn't matter if it is in or
out, so a total timer is appropriate. Do you get billed only for outgoing
calls?

Yes. Billed for outgoing calls and messages only. That's the same all over
Australia. I thought it would be more logical and fairer that way and
assumed that the rest of the world would be the same.
If you're billed for incoming calls then that would mean that anyone that
calls you, welcomed or not, mean youpayfor the call too.
Our cell phones [we call them mobile phones here] and land line phones have
the same policy for charges on outgoing calls only except if it a call
forward or diversaion from another number.

Yea, that's true. Same for SMS. Doesn't matter if I wanted it or not. It
comes in, It counts.
Did find something interesting on my Tilt though, now that I have the chance
to play with it.
In Settings, Device Information, is a Call Duration Tab. It has Incoming and
Outgoing time on it. Kind of a pain to get there, but obviously it is
tracked on the phone, so some enterprising softie could likely work up a
little today screen app to show the Outgoing.

Hi Sven & All.
I just updated my phone to the HTC touch and the good news is the total
outgoing call timers is back!! Now I can keep a note on how many calls i'm
making and spending for each billing cycle.
Thanks for your help Sven.
