Im trying to do a project for class and I need to import video footage from
my camera. We dont have a firewire connection on the computer Im using so I
have to use a USB cable.

The footage is on my cameras tape, and Ive rewinded the tape already and its
turned on player mode, but whenever I hit the capture from video device is
says no device detected.

If anyone could help me that would be great.

Buy a firewire card, they're not expensive and many come with a cable as
well.

More than likely the USB isn't used to access the video. If it is you'll
have to install drivers for the camera into the computer. Drivers would be
on a disc that came with the camera or on mfg website.

This is a PocketPC group. You can probably get better info on another group.
like say a DVD group. State camera make and model, what the PC is and it's
operating system(i.e. XP) and the software your trying to use. Good Luck

USB is almost only ever used to transfer still images (photos) from
tape or built in memory card on the camera. As Cari says, it should be
possible to ask around and find at least one machine with a Firewire
connector and dump the video onto a disk from there.

You could capture the video on such a machine using MovieMaker without
incurring any extra cost, only the time to copy from tape and encode
the video - then stick the encoded WMV onto a memory stick, CD ROM or
similar (or even email it if it's short enough !)

RE Firewire cards and connectors - they're pretty common on machines
under 4 years old, even laptops, and as noted a firewire card runs to
under $20 on a good day.

HTH
Cheers - Neil
