I have a problem setting up what Outlook items to sync in WMDC. All the
Outlook items are greyed out and underneath each item it says "Outlook has
not been installed." Outlook 2007 is indeed installed. I uninstalled both
Outlook and GroupWise, apparently there must be some sort of mapi conflict
that I'm not sure how to resolve. I then reinstalled both Outlook and
GroupWise, checking WMDC after each reinstall. Even with no trace of
GroupWise on the computer, WMDC still said that Outlook was not installed
and therefore could not select which items to sync. BTW, both Outlook and
GroupWise work fine together on the same machine as I've setup a second
profile for Outlook. I made sure to clear out any GroupWise entries in the
mail settings in the control panel during my troubleshooting...no dice.

This is a Vista Business laptop - Dell Vostro 1700.

Any ideas on how to get the pda syncing with Outlook again?

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,

See if running fixmapi.exe helps solve your issue. You should find it under
the following location (Copy/Paste it into a explorer window or run prompt):

%SystemRoot%\System32

This is what I get when running the fixmapi utility:
"LoadLibrary: GetLastError =126"
What next?

I'm thinking this is a Groupwise vs. Outlook problem. In order to get
GroupWise working on a Vista box, I had to install it unconventially and
copy a different mapi.dll file over for it to work. I'm assuming this is
the root of the problem, which is not pleasant because the user relies on
both programs. I will try blowing away the mapi.dll file and then do a
sfc/scannow and see what I get.

Let me know if you have any other ideas.

Tom

Hi Tom,

Sorry but I do not have any experience with Groupwise. Since you mentioned
you suspected a mapi conflict, I suggested running fixmapi. If you are able
to resolve your issue, I would be interested in hearing what helped solve
it. Thanks.

I don't have GroupWise (nor know what it is) but have the same problem. I am
running Vista Ultimate 32 and Office 2007. However, in my case this seems an
intermittent issue. Even though it says "Outlook has not been installed",
about 60% of times my stuff does get synced. Not able to see any pattern,
though. Since it now says "Outlook has not been installed" below each of the
Outlook items, and I am sure I was able to select those back in April when I
initially set up the relationship, it is my guess that something got screwed
up in later updates - either of Outlook or of WDMC.

I will start to dig into Registry now to see if I am able to find something

Just now I logged on as administrator, placed my PocketPC in the cradle, the
WDMC started, and I was able to select all items. No "Outlook not installed"
message. So, could all this be an issue with access permissions? Will
continue to dig...

Well, I'm still at a loss here. I've uninstalled GroupWise and Outlook,
then reinstalled only Outlook so that no Novell products remain and I still
can't WMDC to recognize Outlook being installed. I ran sfc /scannow and it
restored the original mapi files as well. Now when I try to run fixmapi.exe
I don't even get the error I was getting before in addition to the program
never opening. I welcome anymore thoughts. At this point I don't think
it's a GroupWise conflict based on my troubleshooting and others reporting
the same issue without GroupWise installed.

Thanks,
Tom

These steps worked for me. Hopefully they work for others with a similar
problem:

1) Uninstall WMDC (Windows mobile device centre) completely from
computer.

a) Uninstall WMDC from Add/remove programs.

b) Uninstall WMDC setup from Add/Remove programs.

c) Delete the registry key for WMDC,please follow the path:

StartàrunàregeditàHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEàsoftwareàMicrosoftàWINDOWS CE DEVICES

Please delete WINDOWS CE DEVICES registry key and its sub keys. (I didn't
have this exact key but had a similar one in the same location and deleted
that.)

2) Restart the computer.

3) Install WMDC6.1 from the link :
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx

4) Restart the computer and soft boot the device.

5) Connect the mobile device with computer and create new partnership.

6) Try to synchronize and check will you be able to sync outlook
contents or not.
