I was trying to set up my wireless network and I'm not sure what I did, but
my laptop now says "limited or no connectivity" when I try to connect to the
internet. I have another laptop that is working fine. When I try and repair
the connection, it says that is is unable to renew my IP. Can someone please
help me out?

My guess would be a change in key, WEP or WPA? My guess was that you had it
on and inadvertently turned it off on the Access point, or had it off and
turned it on on one laptop.

Having a key conflict does not disable your ability to connect, from a radio
perspective, to the access point, it just prevents the data packets going
over that connection from being read, meaning they can't be routed, and you
won't be able to talk to the device providing your IP (normally the Access
Point). So you can see good signal, but no data connection. Think of it like
having a telephone call with someone that speaks a different language.
Nothing wrong with the phone connection, but no information gets exchanged.

I checked the WEP and key settings and hey did not appear to change. They
match the settings ont he laptop that I have that will connect to the
network. I've tried ipconfig/release and renew and it says that the media is
not conected so changes can't be made. Does that help?

Try entering the key again on the one that doesn't work. Make sure it hasn't
switched between 64 (40) and 128 bit encryption, etc. Not sure how you can
tell the key hasn't changed. they aren't typically visible.

I re-entered the key and it worked this time. Thanks for the help. Just
curious, I never changed the key, and it appeared to be there when I was
logging on. Why did I have to re-enter it?

Inadvertent bump, something overwriting, someone accidentally selecting the
wrong option when asked what to do at an unexpected prompt. PCs aren't any
more perfect than people. No real way to tell. Glad it's fixed though.
