Hi all,
On Windows Vista Ultimate, is it normal that Windows Mobile Device Center
syncs the phone's items with the computer's items, BEFORE the pin code is
entered in the phone!
Before a pin code is entered, the phone should still stay "private" and no
sync should be possible with any computer.
Correct?
Another question: is there a newsgroup for Windows Vista's Windows Mobile
Device Center ?
Thanks

Hi there,
I think you may be getting feedback from the device or desktop that
synchronization is happening. However, nothing is actually synced down. Can
you confirm that items are actually synchronized down to your device?
Thanks.

Yes I made a test :
- edited a task on the mobile
- switched the mobile off
- plug it on the PC's USB
- started the mobile again
- When the mobile was started and ready to receive the pin code, Windows
Mobile Device Center started to synchronize datas.
- Checked in Outlook if the task was the same as on the mobile, and... yes
it was.

Thanks for the information. I would like to file a bug on your behalf.
Before I do, can you tell me the following:
- version of Windows Mobile your device has
- what kind of device you have
- what kind of pin do you have. ex. simple 4 character etc.

Thanks for the information. One more quick question. In connection
settings, did you check the option "Allow data connections on device when
connected to PC". I am wondering if the sync you saw was an "over the air"
sync versus a sync while connected to the desktop.

I don't know where to access this option, but the sync is a usual sync. |

You can find the option by navigating to Windows Mobile Device Center >
Mobile Device Settings > Connection Settings.
When you are disconnected from the desktop, are you still able to
synchronize wirelessly?

Ah it was on the PC.
Nope the option is not checked.
I have not set up a wireless sync yet.

Hello,
I've learned more about the scenario you are seeing. So when you create a
partnership with the device, your device and desktop have an automatic
authentication. What you are actually seeing on your device screen is a
screen lock that was triggered by the USB connection. Hope that help!
Thanks,
Jane

Yes. And it was the same with Active Sync on earlier versions of Windows,
so far as I know.

Not the way Microsoft chose to do it. If that is what you would like, then
try using Pocket Secure, which allows you to block sync before unlocking
using the program's unlock.

This is it, kind of.
