Streaming video to a WM5 device - can it be done?

Hi

I'm trying to stream video captured by a camera to my Pocket LOOX
(yes, we got a baby). So far I've tried three different setups:

1. Streaming with Windows Media Encoder 10 using various bitrates and
resolutions including the anchronistic Pocket PC profile. Dead in the
water with an inevitable "The parameter is incorrect" using the URL
listed by WME and any mms:// url gives a "not found" error message.

2. Streaming with VLC. No go either for mms or http streams. I was
using asf wrapped in wmv. Same errors as above.

3. Unreal Media Server. This one even had its own player, that never
managed to connect.

Given the above the most obvious explanation would be that I don't
have connectivity, but IE had no problems showing web pages.

So far I've failed to find the exact codecs, url schemes and container
formats that can be used with media player.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

OK, I haven't tried this with any verison of WME greater than
V8 (since my broadcast machine runs W98), but the way I get
this to work is to enter in the "Open URL" dialog on WMP
on the PPC:

http://computer_name:8080

WME generally pushes content out through port 8080 when you
more or less accept its defaults for the built-in profiles. Beware that
WME is very picky about the video format it will accept (won't run
anything compressed by my ASUS capture card, but is fine with YVUY
format - you might have to experiment).

Hope this helps and that the newer versions have a similar setup.

Trying to do live video, I would assume. It's a bit of expense but a
slingbox with the PPC slingplayer software was the easiest thing I ever set
up to do this. Just watch that the slingbox has the right inputs for the
output your camera supports.

I am in the same boat here. Using an AT&T Tilt and I have tried VLC so far.
WME would be next. I hear TCPMP is good streaming software for PPCs. I
recieved the same error messages with VLC and tried mmsh and http. I also
succesfully streamed to another running Windows Media Player. That was
disappointing as I thought the two would at least be functional equivalents
in terms of streaming.
