LS,

recently I renewed my home network replacing my old SpeedTouch 570i with a
new SpeedTouch780WL(i) modem/router.
My network now functions quite good and I even managed to hook up my iPAQ
hx4700 (WM5.0) into the network (WPA protected).
However, in order to get it working I had to assign a fixed IP-address,
subnet mask and default gateway (whilst leaving the tab 'name servers' blank).
The device is admitted and connected since it clearly gives the status
"connected" (to the wireless network with correct SSID).
But next trying to surf to any internet page or approaching shared folder in
the network it fails while showing the following message "The page cannot be
found. Check the name and try again".
The status page of my router/modem does not show the PDA to be connected as
part of the wireless network (it does show desktop and laptop computers).

When running MS Network Analyzer on my PDA.
Diagnose for IP shows:
IPConfig PASS
Ping Localhost PASS
Ping HTTP server FAIL
Net Stats PASS
How can these data be used so as to find the cause of not being able to
reach the internet thus displaying the following message "The page cannot be
found. Check the name and try again".

Any suggestion for troubleshooting is still most welcome!

I would very much appreciate any help!

FWIW, my dell pda (diffrent model tho) freaked at wpa, but when I tried it
with no encryption at all it worked fine.. Ended up having to use wep (and
inputting it as hex rather than ascii)

Turn security off and see if that works.

If it does, try WEP.

"Connected" on a PPC ONLY means that is has ASSOCIATED
with the AP, NOT that it is "getting through" to the network.
It's very misleading.

As others have said, back off the security until it works, then reenable
one at a time until you figure out where it fails. Also check to make
sure that MAC filtering is not enabled on the router and if so that
your PPC is in the list.

LS,

thanks for the suggestions.
I am really a bit puzzled by the statement that "connected" does not mean
the device is 'on' the network.
On the other hand, indeed the network does not show the PDA as a device part
of the network.

In the next few days I will manipulate my security settings; keep you posted.

Regarding the MAC filtering; can't find it on the router.
