Just picked up a Blackberry. $35/mo data/web only. Added VNavigator
for $10/mo, but may drop that. Added ext. warranty and insurance for $6/mo.
Can also use the phone part of it for .25/minute, which is just fine.
My Virgin phone is .25/minute for the first 10 minutes of the day, then
..10/minute. I probably don't talk 10 minutes/month usually.
Blackberry sure is hard to set up though.

Yes, Verizon is a CDMA carrier, which presents some limitations in hardware
used. They have, however, accounced a new "open network" policy that will
go into effect later this year, which may make it easier to bring other
CDMA devices (Sprint, Alltel, etc.) to Verizon, but still not as easy as
GSM's "pop in your SIM and go," since Verizon (at least currently) is
unable to program/provision some non-Verizon equipment over-the-air. |

Has Verizon removed the Java VM software from their Blackberries? With
"normal" Blackberries, you should be able to download Google Maps for maps
and directions (but not Navigation- the GPS in Verizon phones is carrier-
assisted and can't be accessed by the phone itself, protecting Verizon's
revenue stream! |

Don't know about the Java. I tried Google Maps on it today. I was on a
neighborhood street, and it kept bouncing my location from the freeway
to the middle of an estuary. Seems like it did a bit better than that
earlier today when I tested it. |

I think I was reading today that it will do both CDMA and GSM. |

Just updated the page at
....to allow the user the choice between static and loop weather radar
images.
The weather loop images are roughly ten times larger than the static
images which would essentially mean that a 30k static image would cost
30 cents compared to $3 on at&t's $10/mb data plan.
Feedback is appreciated, especially if anyone finds errors due to the
revisions.

Bev,
Thanks for that link, but, even if I connect wi-fi from my ATT
Tilt, it just shows one image, the larger page doesn't loop for me.
Nice site though.

did you tap one of the location dots? The base USA image is a "client
side map" where each of the dots on the image link to a specific weather
radar url.
This works without issue on my 2003se device and I know it works on
devices from 2000 to WM5 and smartphones up to WM5, so, would like to
know if something has disabled it with either WM6 or AT&T's data connection.
>> larger page doesn't loop for me. <<
There are now two "start" pages... the first has a white background and
the overview link on the page with the white background now goes to a
static national image with static regional maps displaying when that map
is tapped.
The second (loop) page which is linked at the top of the first is
identical except that weather radar loops are displayed. In addition,
when the "overview" map is tapped, it then displays a national loop with
regional loops displaying when that map is tapped. |

Moving private response back to the thread;
>>
For some reason, I can't get the loops for weather working on my Tilt
again. It just shows static images, don't know what I did the one time
when it worked. Maybe I need to disable the hidden proxy for ATT?
....With my Tilt and ATT, unless you disable the hidden proxy, from the
loop page it only loads a small file-8kb to the phone, and all I see is
the one image. When I disable the hidden proxy, it loads the correct loop
file-330+kb.
<<
Since I am not aware of the "hidden proxy" can't comment on it... anyone
else?

Your post in the thread reminded me I wanted to set up links to the local
radars on my IPAQ. The links on your page made it easer. Thanks.
I also made a link to the top page http://mobile.weather.gov so I could get
city/zip forecasts and links to the lesser used regional radar images. I
think it would make a good addition to your page. |

Good point... will do.
Some history;
I actually built the ppcradar page based on frustrations using that
site, and going back today, note that a several things have changed...
most importantly, the only way to select a radar then was using either
zipcode or station id and now they have city, state or a regional pick list.
They have also added a number of text/lowres resources which may be of
value locally as well.
The key design factor of the ppcradar page was getting to any image
using only minimal taps and doing so visually... such as;
